Dating Safely

Most people here are here for the right reasons. But you don't know someone until you've met them. Use your judgement, take your time and trust your gut.

lasso helps. You decide.

  • lasso gives you tools to verify, report and block people. We can't guarantee that every profile is genuine, that someone will behave safely, or that a meet-up will go as planned.
  • Take your time getting to know someone. Keep personal information private. Meet somewhere public.
  • You decide who you talk to, what you share and who you meet.

Never send money

  • No matter the story, never send money to someone you've met through lasso. Emergencies, sick relatives, customs fees, a flight home, a can't-miss investment: these are the scripts.
  • That includes gift cards, crypto, bank transfers and requests for financial help.
  • If someone asks you for money, stop contact and report them.

Stay on lasso until you trust them

  • Moving to WhatsApp, text or another app is your choice. Don't feel pressured to move off lasso before you're ready.
  • If you report someone, we can only act on what happened here.
  • If someone makes you uncomfortable, you can block or report them on lasso.
  • There's no rush. Take the time you need before meeting someone.

A profile isn't a background check

  • lasso cannot know everything about a person from their profile, their messages or their verification.
  • We don't know what someone does away from lasso, how they'll behave when you meet, or whether everything they've told you is true.
  • Don't treat a profile, a verified badge or time spent chatting as proof that someone is safe.

See their face before you meet

  • A video call can tell you more than messages alone, and helps you check that you're talking to the person in their photos.
  • Verification helps us check an account. It doesn't guarantee someone's identity, intentions, behaviour or safety.
  • If someone refuses reasonable checks or keeps changing their story, take a step back.

Meet somewhere public, first time

  • Choose somewhere public, such as a pub, a coffee shop or a busy bit of a festival. Don't go straight to their home, and don't invite them to yours.
  • Make your own way there and back. Don't rely on someone you've just met for transport.
  • Tell a friend where you're going and when you expect to be home.
  • Keep your phone charged and stay sober enough to make decisions you're comfortable with.
  • If you change your mind, leave. You don't owe anyone a meet-up, a drink, a kiss or anything else.

You're in control

  • You decide who you talk to, what you share and whether you meet someone.
  • You can block or report someone at any time.
  • You can leave a conversation or a meet-up if something doesn't feel right.
  • You never owe another member your time, your attention, your personal information or a second chance.

Guard the details that identify you

  • Your address, your workplace, your children's school, your bank details, your full date of birth. These can wait.
  • Watch what's in the background of your photos: a house number, a work lanyard, a school uniform.
  • You're allowed to keep things back. Anyone who pushes for them early is the problem, not you.

Signs worth trusting your gut on

  • Declares strong feelings very fast, before really knowing you.
  • Their story keeps shifting, or the details don't quite line up.
  • Refuses video calls, or cancels meeting up again and again.
  • Pressures you for photos, for money, or to do anything you're unsure about.
  • Makes you feel guilty for having boundaries.

If something feels wrong

  • Block and report from their profile or the chat. It takes seconds, you don't need to be certain, and they're never told it was you.
  • You don't need proof. Tell us what happened and we'll look into it.
  • If you're in immediate danger, call 999 first.

What we do

  • We provide tools to help you use lasso more safely, including account verification, blocking and reporting.
  • We review reports and take action where appropriate.
  • We work to identify and remove accounts and behaviour that break our rules.

What we can't promise

  • We can't guarantee that every profile is genuine, or that someone is who they claim to be.
  • We can't guarantee that another member will behave appropriately, or that they will follow our rules.
  • We can't guarantee that a conversation or a meet-up will be safe.
  • We can't guarantee that anything another member tells you is accurate.

Your part

  • By using lasso you agree to follow our Community Guidelines and Terms, to use the service responsibly, and to make your own decisions about who you talk to and who you meet.
  • lasso is a way to meet people. It isn't a background-checking service, and it isn't a guarantee of anyone's behaviour.
