What is line dancing?

Line dancing is a short sequence of steps, repeated in lines to a country song. Nobody needs a partner and nobody leads, and most dances are built from a handful of easy steps, so beginners pick them up quickly. What to wear and what a first class is like are in line dancing for beginners.

Getting started

How to find a line dancing class

Line dancing happens in village halls, leisure centres, social clubs and pubs, usually run by one instructor on one night a week. Very little of it is listed anywhere central, so:

  1. Search your town plus "line dancing".
  2. Check local halls, social clubs and leisure centres.
  3. Look in local Facebook groups, where most instructors post.
  4. Confirm the time and that it suits beginners with the organiser before you go.
